ACLT in Partnership with the Notting Hill Carnival

The ACLT was established in June 1996 by Beverley De-Gale and Orin Lewis, the parents of former leukaemia sufferer Daniel De-Gale.

The charity raises awareness of how potential donors with matching bone marrow types can offer hope and a healthy future to those with life-threatening blood related cancers. To make this a reality, donor registration clinics are set up throughout the UK so that people with the right match can be traced.

As part of our relationship with the London Notting Hill Carnival we have established additional working relationships with ITV Local, Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea councils in a coordinated effort to help raise the profile of the official charity.

For the second year running, the ACLT will be the official charity of the Notting Hill Carnival. It is a great honour and huge recognition towards the life saving work being carried out on a day- to- day basis by our team of dedicated staff and volunteers, who work tirelessly towards raising awareness and recruiting new potential bone marrow and blood donors on the world registers.

The ACLT also provides moral support and assistance to people suffering from leukaemia and any other bone marrow related illnesses.

Today there are many diagnosed sufferers urgently requiring a bone marrow transplant and blood donations. Many sufferers contact the ACLT asking for assistance to recruit more potential donors within the UK to determine if any matching donors can be found on their behalf.

The charity is also involved with raising awareness campaigns and recruiting potential donors from many influential organisations such as the Fire Brigade, HM Prison Service, Royal Mail, corporate organisations, government bodies, colleges and universities.

Our relationship with London Notting Hill Carnival ensures a greater knowledge of our work and will encourage carnival goers to take 30 minutes out of their day to register as life savers.

Over the two days, in association with the National Blood Service, we will recruit new blood donors between the ages of 17-65. Each person registering as a new blood donor will be asked also to consider registering as a bone marrow donors. New potential bone marrow donors can register between the ages of 18-49 years. They will remain on the register until their 60th birthday.

We will highlight the work of the charity and how to 'Save a Life' by inviting all carnival revellers to come along to our registration drive, watch a short presentation and then register.

We will also promote our SMS texting service and ask carnival goers to make a small donation towards our work by texting the word ACLT to 84424 to make a £3 donation.

The ACLT is currently working on a global campaign 'HEROES WANTED' which will be launched at the Notting Hill Carnival.
